The medical staff at St. Petersburg General Hospital presented its 1st Medical Staff Healthcare Educational Scholarship to 18-year-old, St. Petersburg High School Senior, Alexandra Debure. The scholarship is a $10,000 award that will be paid in four equal installments of $2,500 beginning with the upcoming fall semester while Debure is getting her under graduate degree.
“Alexandra is a great example of a dedicated student who excels in academic achievement, community support, leadership and compassion.” said Nadarajah Nirmalan, MD, Chief of Staff, St. Petersburg General Hospital. “With the current need for more physicians across the country, we continue to enjoy assisting scholarship recipients, like Alexandra, realize their academic dreams.”
Criteria for this scholarship includes a student who demonstrates a commitment to enter a healthcare related field, leadership, community support and academic excellence by maintaining a minimum 3.5 GPA. A committee of physicians on the hospital's medical staff select the recipient.
"I appreciate the support you have all given me in furthering my pre-medical studies and I am really looking forward to beginning my studies at the University of Miami this fall”, said Alexandra Debure. “I will be sure to share the news of my academic endeavors and again, I am very honored to have been chosen amongst a group of qualified candidates”.
Alexandra is in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program at St. Petersburg High School. Her GPA is 3.98. She was awarded her scholarship at the May 15, 2019 General Medical Staff meeting at St. Petersburg General Hospital.
