St. Petersburg, FL -  Eugene M. DiBetta, DO, a 3rd year post graduate resident in the Graduate Medical Education program at St Petersburg General Hospital, was elected as the national Resident Academic Member.  Only one resident out of over 1500 from across the country is named each year to this prestigious board. The 2011-2012 slate of officers and members of the Board of Governors were elected during the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians Congress of Delegates in San Antonio, TX.

The American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) represents more than 20,000 practicing osteopathic family physicians, residents and students in the United States. Osteopathic Family Physicians are DOs (Doctors of Osteopathy) who specialize in Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment.  DOs promote a patient-centered approach to medical care.  The ACOFP works to promote excellence in osteopathic family medicine through quality education, visionary leadership and responsible advocacy.

Dr. DiBetta will be the voice of residents on the state and national levels and promote Family Practice through speaking engagements and presentations to the ACOFP Board of Governors.  “I am passionate about Family Medicine and want to lead by example,” states DiBetta. “Primary Care Physicians are incredibly needed in our communities and I want to continue to promote Family Practice wherever I can.”

St Petersburg General Hospital offers an unopposed Family Practice residency program and boasts a 100% board certification pass rate of its graduating class members
