St. Petersburg General Hospital honors own “First Responders” with EMS Walk of Fame

Hospital recognizes nine Emergency Medical Services providers in special ceremony

January 24, 2011 (St. Petersburg, FL)   At 2pm on Monday, January 24, 2011, eight area fire departments and Sunstar Paramedics were honored with a ceremonial unveiling of each of their department seals in the form of nine 18x18 brass plaques.  The plaques are laid along the length of the EMS arrival bay outside the Emergency Department of St. Petersburg General Hospital creating the new EMS Walk of Fame.  CEO Robert Conroy, Emergency Department Medical Director Henry Kurusz, M.D. and Emergency Department Director Diane Conti, welcomed representatives from area emergency service providers for the dedication.

“EMS is an integral part of the continuity of care in this community and a close partner with St. Petersburg General Hospital,” states Robert Conroy, CEO of St. Petersburg General Hospital.   “We periodically recognize our ‘first responders’ and desired to include a permanent reminder of our appreciation for the great work they do each and every day.  The EMS Walk of Fame will be an enduring reminder of the dedicated men and women who provide highly skilled medical care on scene and during transport. ”

As the incredible account of men and women who are recovering from wounds sustained in the Arizona January 8 shooting, it is evident that their very lives depended on the swift and expert reaction of Emergency Medical Services First Responders.  EMS personnel provided acute medical care critical moments after the rampage and transported victims to a certified medical care facility where they received prompt medical treatment.  Their lives were saved and their exceptional progress since then can certainly be attributable to the excellent work of these teams.

The EMS Walk of Fame includes the following emergency medical services providers:

Gulfport Fire Department
Largo Fire Department
Lealman Fire Department
Madeira Beach Fire Department
Pinellas Park Fire Department
Pinellas Suncoast Fire Department Seminole Fire Department
St. Petersburg Fire Department
Sunstar Paramedic
